Frequently Asked Questions

As the Citation fleet ages, the airplanes become less and less standardized and the most common complaint about simulator training is it doesn’t replicate your cockpit. Here’s what a recent FlightSafety Bravo student said, “we trained in the Cessna Ultra 560 and then had to stay over an extra day to complete differences training for the Bravo. The avionics in the Ultra simulator are different than in our airplane so we wasted a lot of simulator time struggling through setting up each approach procedure. Sometimes as many as five or six an hour, none of which we will use again. At the end of the day, I’m proficient in the Ultra, but I fly a Bravo!”

Simulators are great tools, but unfortunately very few simulators are equipped like your actual airplane. We offer training in the aircraft combined with simulator training.

I know from personal experience how redundant ground school can be. The endless, mindless repetition of system minutia becomes tedious. The long pointless, detailed explanations of how a starter generator designed in 1950 operates, instead of learning industry reviewed best practices. And you can’t help but think how much time and money you’re wasting. But, the worst part is you aren’t learning anything new. So, I put the focus on current, real world accidents, incidents, and data to emphasize human factors and systems failures to create an individualized curriculum that makes you sit up, pay attention, and self-evaluate your techniques and procedures.

Yes, I do all of your training and help you find a DPE to administer your Type ride.

Yes, I have my own waiver for the CE500.

Yes, but have your agent place a call to the underwriter to verify it. Sometimes agents just say Flightsafety because it’s easier.

Doug Carmody is the owner and only CFI for the Citation program. He is a former US Airways instructor pilot with over 30 years of instructional training with turbine aircraft. Doug is low key, easy-going, and professional. He enjoys training in an informal atmosphere. Please see our testimonials page to read reviews about Doug from former students.
